Evolution 1.11 · release build · needs a retail Steam copy of STORM 4
Naruto Storm Evolution Guide

What Evolution changes in a fight

Quick answer

Evolution reworks the fight rather than adding a mode on top: the Storm Gauge no longer fills from repeated switching, Ring Out is removed, counters delete projectiles, ninja dash start-up is faster, and support types were reassigned across the roster. It also adds back Storm 3's Instant Awakening and Relay through Extra Tech.

If you have not played Evolution since an older build, the mechanics are where you will feel the difference first. This page collects the changes the mod's own feature list and changelogs document.

Core changes

SystemWhat the mod did
Storm GaugeRepeated switching can no longer fill it — the gauge rewards engagement instead of cycling
Ring OutRemoved as a mechanic
Dash CutRevised and later re-added as a support type, with distance and height requirements
Cover FireNow throws Chakra Shuriken instead of normal Shuriken
Charge Assist and Support JutsuImproved stats, and better damage scaling on two-man teams
CounterNow deletes projectile attacks as well as physical ones
Ninja DashStart-up cut from 14 frames to 9
Awakening thresholdHealth threshold for awakening raised, so awakenings arrive later

Numeric changes worth knowing

From the 1.07 cycle, which set the tone for what followed:

  • Storm Gauge gain from damage inflicted roughly doubled.
  • Storm Gauge gain from damage received halved, and the low-health bonus reduced.
  • Auto chakra regeneration increased substantially.
  • Counter Attack Substitute cost doubled — the single change that catches out returning players hardest.
  • Secret Substitution cooldown frames increased.
  • Switching during counter active frames allowed instead of only during recovery.

The added-back systems

Two Storm 3 mechanics returned, both inside the Extra Tech option:

  • Instant Awakening — activate your awakening form mid-match through a dedicated input rather than waiting for a gauge condition. Its own page covers the inputs and the character-specific behaviour.
  • Relay — the Storm 3 system of handing a teammate in behind an attack; also documented separately.

Extra Tech is a toggle in the lobby and in versus settings, so a match can be run with or without that layer.

Support rework

Evolution reassigned support types across a large part of the roster, which changes how a team plays more than most people expect. Part One characters were spread across Charge Guard, Secret Sub, Combo Support, Strike Back, Charge Assist, Break Guard and Cover Fire, and 1.11 reverted the base roster's Dash Cut changes back to Dash Cut.

Character-level rebalancing

Beyond systems, the mod runs continuous moveset work: hitbox sizes and offsets, active frames, cancel windows, tracking, pushback, stagger and damage distribution. Recent builds touched, among others, Asuma, Boro, Boruto (Karma), Kakashi (DMS), Kankuro (PTS), Kisame (Part One), Mifune, Naruto (PTS and Six Paths), Obito (Rampaging), Orochimaru, Roshi and Sasori.

A character that felt bad two builds ago may be reworked now — which is the main argument for reading the changelog rather than a year-old video.
