Story and adventure modes

The most common question in the community thread for this mod is not about mechanics: it is whether installing it costs you the campaign. It does not.
Both modes stay playable
Players with the mod installed report playing adventure mode normally, and story mode is part of the same installation. Evolution is built around the versus game — reworked supports, hitboxes, gauges — but it does not disable the single-player side of STORM 4.
What changes inside them
Where the mod touches story content, it is usually a fix rather than a redesign:
- Missing textures in the story-mode battle against Kaguya when using Rinnegan Sasuke were fixed.
- The mod's effect and shader ports from Connections apply across the game, so story battles can look different from vanilla in places.
- 60 FPS work applies to the campaign too, which means the same frame-rate caveats and the same fixes.
What does not change
- The campaign's structure, missions and unlocks.
- Your base game save. Evolution writes to its own save file (
STORM4E.S), which is why installing the mod does not wipe progress. Save file and progress explains the split.
Progress and unlocks
Two layers are worth keeping straight:
- Base-game progression unlocks base-game content.
- Mod content unlocks through the mod's own conditions, and the mod's roster additions come from the mod files rather than from campaign progress.
If a character shows up in the select but will not start, that is usually a base-game unlock condition rather than a fault — the missing characters page works through the cases.
DLC story content
The Next Generations DLC carries its own content, and Evolution reads parts of it. Connections characters, stages and costumes come from that DLC, which is the single dependency worth knowing before you start a long session.
