Running EVO on Steam Deck and Linux

The mod is a Windows build. On a Steam Deck or a Linux desktop you run it through Proton, exactly as you would run STORM 4 itself. Players who have done it report a chain of steps that works; this page records what they did rather than promising a supported configuration.
The reported setup
- Install STORM 4 from Steam on the Deck or the Linux machine.
- Put the Evolution launcher inside the game folder, the same place it goes on Windows.
- In Steam, add the launcher executable as a non-Steam game.
- Force Proton Experimental for that entry in its compatibility settings.
- Run the launcher, let the build download, and press Validate.
- Add NSUNS4e.exe as another non-Steam game entry and launch the mod from there.
The detail players hit repeatedly is the build they install. In the 1.10 cycle the reported fix was to install the then-current test build rather than the release build. That test build has since been retired, and the mod team's current position is that changes go straight into the main build — so on the current release the equivalent step is simply to let the updater finish before you press play.
What to expect
- Download time on a Deck is the same as any other machine; the launcher is not optimised for a handheld's power profile.
- Storage is the usual constraint. The mod's file set is large; a base-model Deck fills up quickly between the game and the mod.
- Performance is a Steam Deck running STORM 4 with extra assets. Lower the resolution and effects before you assume the mod is at fault.
If the launcher will not run
A launcher that closes immediately under Proton usually needs a different compatibility version, or a first run on a desktop machine to complete the download. Reports are split on which Proton version behaves best, so try Experimental and one recent numbered release before concluding anything.
